Your Alabama vacation will exceed your expectations when you make Lewis Smith Lake your destination. More than 200 feet deep, the lake is the deepest in Alabama. It includes more than 21,000 acres with more than 500 miles of shoreline. The lake has a watershed of about 950 square miles.
Smith Lake's western side includes the 180,000-acre Bankhead National Forest, home of the Sipsey Wilderness, and the Sipsey fork of the Black Warrior River, Alabama's only wild and scenic river. The water flowing through the national forest is one of the primary reasons for the lake's crystal clear water. The area surrounding the lake is rural, and much of the shoreline is undeveloped. Cullman and Jasper are the closest large towns.
