Hike Hurricane Creek Park

Hurricane Creek Park; perfect place for a challenging moderate hike!  With the beautiful fall weather inviting us to get out and see the leaves; we found a great hike that was challenging but not extreme located less than an hour from Smith Lake.  We have passed by the park many times on old Hwy 31 just north of Cullman and seen the “Alabama Birding Trail” Sign.  Hurricane creek has cut a 500 foot deep gorge just a few hundred yards from the turn off of Hwy 31.  The park offers rock climbing (pro shop on-site), hiking, mountain biking (steep) and tent camping.  The trails are well kept.  Many are steep with steps cut into rock faces.  The clear waters of the creek flow through the park.  We spent a couple of hours hiking the trails and marveling at  the huge trees and beautiful rock formations.  The park is managed by Cullman Parks and Recreation and charges $3.00 admission – a bargain.  The land was a donation to Forever Wild of Alabama by the late William (Buddy) Rogers.  He created the park and laid out the trails.  It is a perfect outing for children and dogs are permitted (on lease).
